Not every house in the UK will need solar panel systems producing the maximum possible power. How do 2kW systems work to power your home?
Solar PV panels (photovoltaic) work by harnessing energy from the sun and turning it into usable power for your home. The PV cells in the panel absorb the solar energy from the sun which creates electrical charges that are activated by the internal electrical field of the PV cell which then flows. This current is Direct Current (DC) which isn’t usable in UK homes, so it must be sent to a solar inverter which changes the current from DC to AC (Alternating Current) which is usable in UK homes.
Throughout the day, in theory, there should be an uninterrupted power supply, provided your solar panels aren’t in shade or in poor conditions throughout the day. To maximise efficiency solar panels should be arranged on a roof at an angle that allows for better absorption of solar energy. Is an on-grid or off-grid 2kW solar system better?
This depends entirely on your needs and the power usage of your home. An on-grid solar power system will mean you occasionally rely on the National Grid to power your home when your solar panels aren’t producing enough energy to meet your needs. This is a good backup option in the event of your solar panels failing to meet your energy demands, and it makes sense for a 2kW solar system, given that they don’t produce a lot of energy throughout the day to meet energy demands and store up energy in solar batteries.
An off grid solar kit may be possible for those who have significantly reduced energy demands compared to typical UK averages and who can enjoy maximum power voltage throughout the day due to optimal conditions and location. Mostly, though, a 2kW solar panel system will not really be suitable for off grid setups. For reference, it’s estimated that a 2kW solar panel system will cost around £4,000-£4,500 on average, but again, the final number will differ based on a range of factors.

This depends on the maximum output of the panels you pick. The most common size solar panels in the UK for residential properties are generally either 250W or 400W panels.
A 2kW solar panel system will require:

Savings will vary based on how much of your energy usage you cover with a 2kW solar system and how much you rely on the National Grid for your power. Obviously if your 2kW solar system produces enough power for your household that you don’t require any power from the National Grid, then your energy bills will be slashed to £0.

Estimates vary based on how much energy you use, etc, but most solar installation experts will agree that savings of between 70 and 90% are reasonable to expect.
