A community-oriented initiative is on the brink of transformation as the Shropshire and Telford Community Energy (STCE) gears up for its second public share offer aimed at further enhancing the Twemlows solar farm in Shropshire. Scheduled to launch on Friday, June 6, 2024, this unique opportunity invites local residents and advocates of sustainable energy to invest in a solar project that promises to amplify the region’s commitment to clean energy while generating substantial funding for local initiatives.
The Twemlows solar farm, already operational and successfully generating a robust 10MW of power since STCE acquired it in December 2023, is poised to ascend to new heights with this investment scheme. Previous profits from the farm have been instrumental in supporting various community facilities, including village halls and cinemas. The upcoming investment drive aims to secure around £500,000, a significant step towards an ambitious community benefit projection of approximately £3 million over the next 16 years.
Dave Green, the Treasurer of STCE, emphasized the critical nature of this investment opportunity during an interview with BBC Radio Shropshire, highlighting its dual purpose: addressing climate change and bolstering local financial independence. By securing additional public funding, STCE aspires to strengthen its ownership status, thereby enhancing its capacity to distribute funding towards community energy schemes and other guaranteed benefits.
The launch event for the share offer will take place at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton, running between 10:00 BST and 13:00 BST. This public share offer not only symbolizes a commitment to environmental stewardship but also promises to enrich the local community through sustainable practices and financial contributions that will provide lasting benefits for many years to come. This initiative exemplifies a proactive approach to community-led renewable energy projects, galvanizing public interest and participation in crafting a greener future.
