A significant proposal has emerged for a solar farm spanning over 100 acres in Cornwall, specifically outside the village of Lanreath, near Lostwithiel. Elgin Energy, the developer behind the project, has sought pre-application advice, indicating a comprehensive plan that features battery storage and ancillary infrastructure aimed at both enhancing the local landscape and biodiversity.
The proposed solar farm is set to play a pivotal role in achieving local and national net zero carbon targets, boasting an impressive export capacity of up to 25 Megawatts of renewable energy. According to the plans, the facility will generate sufficient clean electricity to supply approximately 9,700 average family homes. Additionally, it is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 4,979 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Elgin Energy has conveyed its intentions to apply for temporary planning permission, which would cover the operational lifespan of the solar farm for up to 50 years. Importantly, the company assures that once the project concludes, the site will be restored to its original agricultural use, thus maintaining the area’s rural character.
