A groundbreaking decision in Oxfordshire has led to the approval of a solar farm that will generate enough energy to power approximately 11,000 homes annually. The site, located to the east of Denchworth, was initially rejected by the Vale of White Horse District Council back in May 2024, prompting Renewable Connections Developments Limited to appeal the decision. The Planning Inspectorate reviewed the appeal and recently overturned the council’s denial, allowing the construction of a 30MW solar power facility at Manor Farm.
Planning inspector Steven Rennie emphasized that the benefits of the solar farm significantly outweigh the concerns related to its environmental impact. The council had previously argued that the project would adversely affect the picturesque views of the North Wessex Downs and the village of Denchworth, thus deeming it inappropriate. However, Inspector Rennie acknowledged these concerns while also stating that strategic planting and landscaping efforts would mitigate the visual impact of the facility over time.
