How Much Do Solar Panels Cost in the UK?
The cost of solar panels in the UK can vary depending on several factors, including the size of your system, the type of panels you choose, and the complexity of the installation. However, on average, businesses in the UK can expect to pay between £5,000 and £15,000 for a commercial solar panel system.
Factors That Affect Solar Panel Price in UK
SystemSize
Larger systems will naturally cost more, as they require more panels and additional equipment. However, the larger the system, the greater the energy savings.PanelType
The type of solar panels you choose will impact the price. High-efficiency panels tend to be more expensive but provide higher energy output over time.RoofType&InstallationComplexity
Roofs that are harder to access, have shading issues, or require additional structural support will increase installation costs. Our team conducts a detailed site survey to ensure accurate pricing based on your building’s requirements.Incentives&Grants
The UK government provides various incentives for renewable energy, which can
offset the initial cost of solar panels. The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) allows you to earn income by selling excess power back to the grid, further improving the financial viability of your solar investment.
5. FinancingOptions
If upfront costs are a concern, ESESolar offers flexible solar financing options that allow you to spread the cost of your solar panel system over several years, making it easier for businesses to invest in renewable energy.

Why Now is the Right Time to Invest in Solar Panels
SESolar believes that now is the perfect time for UK businesses to invest in solar
panels. Here’s why:
FallingSolarPanelPrices
Over the past decade, the cost of solar panels has dropped significantly, making solar energy more affordable for businesses of all sizes. This means you can now invest in solar without the high upfront costs that were once associated with renewable energy systems.RisingEnergyCosts
With energy prices in the UK continuing to rise, businesses need a reliable and cost-effective way to manage their energy consumption. Solar panels can help you reduce your dependence on expensive grid electricity, leading to lower long-term energy costs.GovernmentSupport
The UK government’s commitment to renewable energy makes it an excellent time to invest in solar panels. There are various grants, tax incentives, and schemes like the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), which allow businesses to earn money from the electricity they generate.Long-TermFinancialBenefits
Once installed, solar panels can deliver consistent savings for 25+ years. As energy prices continue to rise, you’ll enjoy more significant savings over time, making your initial investment in solar panels a smart, long-term financial decision.
Carbon Emissions Reductions
Reducing your carbon footprint and moving to greener, renewable energy is an attractive prospect for many homeowners. You’ll be saving money on your energy bills whilst saving the planet and reducing the amount of carbon emissions your home produces.
As a trusted local solar panel installer, we’ll be able to show you some of the ways your new panels can help change both the local environment and wider environment for the better over their lifetime when you generate electricity at home vs buy from traditional energy suppliers with a less green mindset.
What Your System Can Do For You
Knowing what your solar PV system is doing – from the amount of energy it will produce, to the ways it can store surplus energy with a solar battery and your typical energy use at home vs extra energy you could potentially sell back to the grid through the Smart Export Guarantee – means you can put yourself in better charge of your energy.
As a reliable solar panel installation company, we always make sure the information we provide is transparent, easy to understand, and clear to all our customers, so they know exactly what their solar panels should be doing. That way, you can contact us if your system isn’t performing as it should.
How Much It'll All Cost
Deciding to invest in a greener future with solar panels from ESE is daunting. It’s a big investment to make because UK solar systems are not cheap, and you’ll need to decide if investing in them for your home is a good idea.
That’s why we’re always honest about the costs you’ll face if you work with us. We don’t miss anything out of our detailed cost breakdowns – everything from the initial upfront costs to when you can expect a return on your investment – so you understand the full costs you’ll incur from the get-go.
Remember, though, that solar systems will pay for themselves over the years in the renewable electricity they will produce.
Save On Energy Bills
When you come to rely on solar energy instead, you’ll automatically start saving significantly each month because of the money you’ll save by using your own energy from your solar panel installation, rather than buying the energy from energy suppliers – which is significantly more expensive.
Knowing how much you can expect to save each month can help you decide if solar panels are worth installing for you.

Solar Panel Installation FAQs
Some of the most common questions about installing solar panels for your home are answered for you here…
Yes, they will need maintenance over the years to keep them working the way they should – but with our maintenance plan, you don’t need to worry about any of that. With our maintenance package we’ll cover a range of potential problems for you, from replacing faulty panels to fixing issues with your solar inverter, we cover the lot.
Just contact our amazing customer service team with any problems, and we’ll do all we can to help.
In most cases, no. Solar panels will usually come under what’s termed ‘Permitted Development’ meaning you won’t require any special permissions from councils or local authorities to have it installed.
With that said, there are certain exceptions to that rule, such as, if you live in:
- a listed building
- a designated conservation area or world heritage site
Here planning permission will be required, and certain stipulations may be made, such as needing to fit the solar panels on a roof that isn’t visible from the road. But we can talk more about this before you move ahead with your installation if you’re concerned.
Despite popular belief, solar panels don’t operate off the sun’s rays, they operate using the sun’s energy which will reach them even on cloudy or wintry days. Although it is true that your panels won’t produce nearly as much electricity at night, because the sun’s energy is much lower.
The best solar panels work in a range of conditions and our residential and commercial panels all utilise the best panels – so you needn’t worry about weather conditions affecting your solar panel performance.
Most panels will produce different amounts of electricity depending on a range of factors, like the type of solar panel, its position, the time of day, and the time of year.
But an average solar panel will produce between 250 and 450 watts per hour, and most working as part of a domestic solar panel system for your home will generate between 1 and 4kW.
That depends on the space you have to install energy saving measures like solar PV systems, and how much energy you use typically each year, and how much of that energy you would like your new solar system to cover.
Get started on your solar journey today, and one of our expert team members will be able to design the perfect solar panels for you and talk with you about the potential range of benefits your panels offer.
Yes, they are a smart investment for a number of key reasons we’ve covered above:
- you’ll save money
- you’ll lower your carbon footprint
- you’ll be investing in greener, renewable energy
And best of all, panels will pay for themselves eventually, meaning free energy for you from that point onwards!
The best panels (such as modern PV) will last for around 40 years if properly maintained, but you can expect almost all to last for at least 25 years. Power output may decrease during this time, but not by significant amounts.
After 40 years of operating, your panels for your home will likely still be operating at 80% capacity compared to when the solar panel system was first installed.
If you want to make the most out of your new panels, then staying in your property for as long as possible after installation is the best way to make them profitable for you.
With that said, solar panels will increase the value of your home if you come to sell, because the new homeowners will be saving significantly on their energy bills and enjoying the benefits of the free solar panels you installed.
Unfortunately not all UK homes can benefit from them because they need to be installed in a certain way (ideally facing South, South-East or South-West and installed on a roof with a pitch of between 30 and 35 degrees).
Although it’s worth noting: plenty of panels work outside of these conditions – they are simply the perfect conditions.
We’ll always design the best solar panel system for you – but as an open and honest solar panel installer, if they just won’t work for you, we’ll tell you.
Not sure if a new solar panel system is right for you? Contact us today and we’ll discuss your options.
